| "That's right baby,
we are house"
LadyHouse aka Karlyn Neel began her experience in the deep
basements of San Francisco in the exploding house scene in
1992. Attending a party in the basement of Big Heart City,
which has recently been demolished, listening to the pulsing
rhythms while dancing in the dark, Karlyn was immediately
addicted. She began collecting what has now become more than
a decade's thick collection of vinyl and hasn't stopped since.
Of course, all the while Karlyn///LadyHouse amassed what would
become a decade-thick stack of records, she learned her craft
& history from an amazing association with LA's Radio
92.3 (the Beat) House DJ and SF Release Resident DJ, Terrence
Toy, who dubbed her "LadyHouse" even before she
ever attempted to mix. Did he know something before any of
us did?
Ladies and Germs, DJ LadyHouse makes her solo debut at Kelly's
Mission Rock. Then, pure blur at electrified spots throughout
the San Francisco Bay Area: 1015 Folsom, 111 Minna, 11th Street
Cafe, Azie, Azul, Bambuddha Lounge, Butter, Cloud 9, Club
Bas, Club V, Fluid, The Forum, Le Colonial, Mezzanine, The
Monkey Club, Paradise Lounge, Red Eye Lounge, Snodrift, Sublounge,
Suede, The W Hotel, Zendo and the infamous San Francisco

Goddess, Martel & Nabiel's Release, Mystery Girl Production
Fashion Shows & Events, Sebastien's Heaven, Zendo's Vain
Afterhours. Super special nights at the Sony Metreon for MEANDRA:
The San Francisco Design Museum and CNET TV Studios sets followed.
Naturally Ian Schrager's Redwood Room had to have her. And
that's where you'll find her in residence, right now along
with residencies at Butter, The Bubble Lounge and The Red
Eye Lounge and with Late Night Events, Femme DJs, Deep Frisco
and Sound Palette.
Miss House has been jet setting the US with guest spots at
Pangaea & Cafe de Ville in New York, Planet Splash N'
Play in Virginia, The Cafe in Wyoming, The Standard Rooftop
in Los Angeles, Lima, Peru, the first ever Love Parade in
the US held in San Francisco and special performances at the
Winter Music Conference 2004 at The Creek, The Leslie Hotel,
Mirage and the brand new, all retro gear, Adidas Store in
Miami.
In the Fall of 2003, Miss House, was chosen as a finalist
for the Women Who Rock the Numark Turntables in New York City
to represent the West Coast. Her funky style and sharp skills
secured her a spot in the top five in the competition taking
home fabulous Numark goodies and was featured in the Jan/Feb
2004 edition of Women Who Rock. The following summer, Miss
House was featured in URB Magazine with fellow house heads
Justin Martin & DJ Heather.
After coming home from the Women Who Rock contest, seeking
camaraderie and getting constant requests for all female dj
lineups, LadyHouse put together a group of women who were
both incredibly talented and stylish behind the decks. In
November of 2003, LadyHouse co-founded Femme DJs in San Francisco,
an all female dj collective of talented artists that are creating
a buzz among the underground dance scene. In 2005, the group
that once started as a head turning all-female group is now
a powerhouse femme talent agency.
In December 2003, LadyHouse was selected to audition for MTV's
new game show Your Face or Mine by the American Idol producers.
Unfortunately, the producers changed their format and decided
not to use a dj as their host. Soon thereafter, Ladyhouse
was selected for the brand new reality show The Club on Spike
TV, featuring her in a dj contest at the Meta club ICE.
New horizons loom in her future. We Are House, her first track
featuring her vocal stylings, just released on Plastic City
Records in January 2005, has been off the charts. New releases
are slated to appear regularly in the coming year. Her countless
hours spent in the studio and on the decks will soon bear
fruit in the form of her own label. But it's her love for
House (deep, garage, classic, funky, tribally, hard &
tech) that keeps her hands on the decks and ours in the air.
Ladyhouse's feminine touch and energetic style insure that
this is only the beginning of a fierce career, and a wonderful
contribution to the story that is House.
